South Woodstock Baptist Church was built in 1840.  Organized during the Presidency of
George Washington as the second Baptist Church of Woodstock on June 29, 1792 in the
home of Deacon Jesse Bolles in Quassett. During that year, Amos Wells from Stonington
came to lead his new flock in this sparsely settled area of northeastern Connecticut where a few of the friendly Wabaquassetts and Nipmunks still resided.  In 1803 Deacon Bolles moved from Quasset and would serve as "Steward" of the Baptist founded Brown University in Providence from 1803 to 1812.  The present church edifice continues to serve the area expounding the truth of the Bible.
